Connections, changes and challenges

I am always working to connect with organisations and individuals to best meet their needs, challenges or areas for development. The stories below may resonate with something you are planning for or grappling with at the moment.

You are not alone in working on that change, challenge or practice connection

The teams working in family based care at Key Assets Australia - Victoria had different levels of understanding and training in trauma informed practices. We worked together to provide a consistent and high quality training program that both built and added to the knowledge and practice skills of the team. We made sure there was also an opportunity for advanced skill appllication with current practice challenges.

(From this training I am....) Ensuring I provide consistency for reparative work to support trauma informed practice.

(From this training I understand....)The neurobiological impacts of trauma, how this looks in children and how to respond.

A national out of home care service provider needed to ensure the consistent implementation of a new policy and procedure that was associated with significant risks to the children and young people they care for. We developed and delivered a nationally consistent implementation process for over 1500 staff.

Thanks for answering all of our questions and making this as practical as possible.

Experienced professionals take on leadership roles but know that they need ongoing support and development to ensure the quality of their leadership. They are aware that quality external supervision provides this developmental opportunity in a way that is not possible within organisational supervision processes. We work together in individual sessions to focus on the application of knowledge into leadership practice.

A Health Service in the Northern Territory is implementing an integrated service framework that incorporates a range of ways of working. While their leaders have the skills to deliver training, it was difficult to find the time to develop a quality learning program to deliver to their teams. I developed a training package focused on Motivational Interviewing, grounded in the broader framework, for a team to be able to pick up and deliver. This service also includes a 'support the trainer' process to ensure the successful facilitation of this training.

A statewide not for profit organisation identified that their team had multiple learning needs across both practice and leadership. We used a needs analysis process to identify the most pressing concerns and were then able to develop and deliver a series of learning programs across a 12 month period to address those needs.

Behaviours that are often called challenging invariably have a deeper and more significant meaning but we still need to be able to de-escalate those behaviours that can result in harm to children, young people or team members. I have delivered a multi-day curriculum based training program focused on supporting relational de-escalation strategies to address the needs of both staff and those they care for.

I can honestly say this was the best training I have ever attended. Thanks for your passion and your knowledge.

Network colleagues have identified that professionals across the country are seeking opportunities to share practice challenges and learning. Working collaboratively is essential to quality practice and we are offering a monthly community of practice to provide practical opportunities for exploring these issues.
